We get a lot of confusion about which plug or terminal is needed based on whether it is female or male. People read a forum post and then purchase the wrong side for their project. We thought we'd do a short post to define what it means when someone says "male plug" or "female terminal." As for the seals, they are typically the same for both the plug and receptacle; we'll call them unisex :)
Connectors:
Male - a male connector refers to the plug side.
Female - a female connector refers to the receptacle side.
Terminals
Male - a male terminal refers to the terminal or pin that is inserted into a female receptacle.
Female - a female terminals refers to the terminal or pin that is inserted into a male plug.
