What Is The Blue Tape For On My Subaru Wiring Harness?

December 2024 Update: iWire is no longer offering harness merge services so we can focus on other parts of the business, including iDCCD, plug-and-play harnesses, and replacement electrical components. As part of this change, our technical support, wiring guidance, and troubleshooting assistance for harness merge projects will be very limited moving forward.

We appreciate everyone who trusted us with their swap wiring over the years.

These blog posts will remain available as a resource for the Subaru swap community.

To learn more about why we ended our harness merge services, please read the blog post below:

In this post we talk about that weird blue tape found on Subaru wiring harnesses. This will be a rather short one, but it's a pretty helpful piece of knowledge. The blue tape is for the manufacturer to have components that are found in all harnesses, but are not used on that vehicle. Commonly you'll find things like the rear accessory power supply, fog light relay relay (pink plug in the main picture) or connections for an alarm or cruise control (see below).

When we merge harnesses, we also include blue tape for connectors that may not be used like expansion for DCCD, emissions equipment, or immobilizer.
